EMOC NOTICE

EMOC Notice 90: Recent Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreaks Worldwide

This Emergency Management Operations Center (EMOC) Notice includes information on all foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreaks that are occurring in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, the United Kingdom, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

The United Kingdom FMD Outbreak (Type O)
As of 12:00 p.m., EDT, June 26, 2001, the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has reported a total of 1,788 confirmed cases of FMD in Great Britain. DEFRA reports that three new cases of FMD were confirmed between 12:00 p.m., EDT, June 25, 2001 and 12:00 p.m., EDT, June 26, 2001. The new outbreaks were in Cumbria.
Northern Ireland continues to have four confirmed cases of FMD. The outbreaks are in Antrim (1 case), Armagh (1 case), and Tyrone (2 cases).

Argentina FMD Outbreak (Type A)
Argentina continues to have 1,351 confirmed cases of FMD. No new cases of FMD have been confirmed in Argentina since the last confirmed cases on June 22, 2001.

Uruguay FMD Outbreak (Type A)
Uruguay continues to have 1,596 confirmed cases of FMD. The outbreaks are in Artigas (35 cases), Canelones (14 cases), Cerro Largo (23 cases), Colonia (344 cases), Durazno (65 cases), Flores (56 cases), Florida (74 cases), Lavalleja (10 cases), Maldonado (5 cases), Paysandu (55 cases), Rio Negro (142 cases), Rivera (8 cases), Rocha (12 cases), Salto (56 cases), San Jose (48 cases), Soriano (509 cases), Tacuarembo (103 cases), and Treinta y Tres (37 cases). No new cases of FMD have been confirmed in Uruguay since the last confirmed cases on June 22, 2001.

Venezuela FMD Outbreak (Type A)
Venezuela continues to have one new case of FMD. The new outbreak is in the State of Tachira No new cases of FMD have been confirmed in Venezuela since the last confirmed case on June 15, 2001.

Colombia FMD Outbreak (Type A)
Colombia continues to have one confirmed case of FMD type A. The outbreak is in the Department of Cauca. No new cases of FMD have been confirmed in Colombia since the last confirmed case on June 15, 2001.

Mongolia FMD Outbreak (Type O)
Mongolia continues to have 28 confirmed cases of FMD. The outbreaks are in Dornod (17 cases), Khenti (1 case), Orkhon Aimag (1 case), Selenge (1 case), Sukhebaatar (5 cases), and Ulaanbaatar (3 cases). No new cases of FMD have been confirmed in Mongolia since the last confirmed case on June 8, 2001.

Kazakhstan FMD Outbreak (Type O)
Kazakhstan continues to have one confirmed case of FMD. The outbreak is in Karaganda Oblast. No new cases of FMD have been confirmed in Kazakhstan since the initial confirmed case on June 8, 2001.

Brazil FMD Outbreak (Type A)
Brazil continues to have 17 confirmed cases of FMD. The outbreaks are in Rio Grande do Sul. No new cases of FMD have been confirmed in Brazil since the last confirmed cases on May 30, 2001.
